I can't really think of a way to put it that's not combative, at least over text. I tell clients, friends, family, your only solution is to use social media with the understanding that what you post is public, and that there's no such thing as delete.

Maybe if someone starts fedi search engine, and doesn't back down the second they get harassed, people will adjust their behavior for the environment instead of demanding the environment be sterilized for them.

Look, my stance on this is pretty simple.

Indexing enabled => go right ahead.
Indexing disabled/blocked by instance owner => don't.

Is this something a bad actor cares about? No. But those people
already scrape stuff, they just don't have public access.
I want a fedi search engine to respect user settings, which is honestly not at all a high bar.
