what I said is that many instances are blocked based on heresay and intentionally misinformed security advice.
the user, and even the admin, is allowed to implement whatever policy they see fit. that is not the problem.
the problem is that people are going around encouraging others to implement policy based on unreliable data and, in some cases, gaslighting other admins with entirely inaccurate security assertions, which people then believe because how federated networks operate is not so easy to understand if you are not a highly technical person.
this agenda is highly toxic and disruptive to the fediverse, and is done allegedly in the name of "safety". but, it's not actually improving safety. if anything, it is reducing safety because various support networks are being divided and conquered by this McCarthyism. freedom of speech is not under attack by these actions, but freedom of association is, for reasons that do not hold muster when looked at in depth. both are important freedoms.
also this happens again and again while actual white supremacy instances slip under the radar, like pieville. they are probably laughing at all of this hysteria tbh.
